I saw this snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) in the unusually clear water of a tidal marsh in Patchogue, NY. Its shell was about 35 cm (14 inches) long. You rarely get to see these guys so clearly swimming in the wild. Very cool.
The other interesting thing is that this is brackish water. I didn’t know snappers would inhabit brackish water, but clearly they do.
Hey I saw one in spring grove PA in a water run off ditch with many tadpoles the water was clear except for a few branches
