Hello – we have one Pilgrim goose that appears to be nesting. The only other geese that are around are Canada geese. We also have mallards and one Pekin duck. Could any of them fertilize her eggs? Thank you – Lori (East-central Pennsylvania)

Hi Lori, thanks for writing. It seems that almost all geese can hybridize, so it’s possible a Canada goose male fertilized her eggs. No one’s exactly sure how the Pilgrim goose was created, but most domestic goose breeds come originally from the European graylag goose, which can definitely hybridize with the Canada goose. Tom
Thanks so much Tom!! We just want her to have a buddy again. We call her Honkers. Her buddy disappeared in December 🙁 We are staring out the window all day so we will keep you posted!! Thank you so much. Lori
